The Team

Mechanical Subteams

Accumulator

The Accumulator Subteam designs and manufactures the mechanical side of the high-voltage battery pack. It is responsible for the critical storage of the car’s electric power in a safe, reliable, and racing-optimized manner, including the battery pack, cooling system, and related electrical connections.

Tools & Platforms:

ANSYS Fluent, CNC Mills, FEA Software, SolidWorks

Aerodynamics

The Aerodynamics Team develops aerodynamic components that improve the car’s performance by producing downforce, using computational simulations such as CFD and FEA. These components are manufactured using various carbon fiber curing processes to minimize weight.

Tools & Platforms:

Carbon Fiber Curing Equipment, CFD Software, CNC Routers, FEA Software, Waterjet

Chassis

The Chassis Subteam develops and manufactures the structural and mechanical foundation of the car, including the frame, drivetrain, pedal box, and ergonomics, using CAD, FEA, and other stress analysis tools to optimize performance. Members also gain experience with a range of manufacturing methods, including manual machining, CNC milling, waterjet cutting, and 3D printing.

Tools & Platforms:

CAM Software, CNC Milling, FEA Software, Manual Mill & Lathe, SolidWorks, Waterjet

Suspension

The Suspension Subteam designs, manufactures, and validates the car’s suspension platform to deliver optimal grip and handling. It is responsible for all in-wheel components and the structures connecting the wheels, chassis, and shocks, using 3D CAD, FEA, thermal simulations, and manual or CNC machining to ensure performance and reliability.

Tools & Platforms:

Ansys, CNC Mills & Lathes, MATLAB, Manual Mills & Lathes, OptimumK, SolidWorks, Waterjet

Electrical Subteams

Data Acquisition

The Data Acquisition (DAQ) Subteam is responsible for the collection and presentation of over 60 sensor data points throughout our car. DAQ members design electronic circuits for data collection using Altium Designer and write firmware in C++ that enables the capture and real-time logging of all sensor data. DAQ maintains a complete data pipeline that orchestrates the flow of data from any sensor on the car to our custom visualization software. Our members hone their hardware and software skills with opportunities for embedded and full-stack development.

Tools & Platforms:

Altium Designer, C++, Python

Low Voltage Electronics

The Low Voltage (LV) Electronics Subteam is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining all electronic systems that operate below the car’s high-voltage tractive system. This includes critical control boards such as the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), Power Distribution Module (PDM), LV Charger, and telemetry/DAQ systems. The team handles everything from PCB design and firmware development to harness fabrication, CAN communication, and system integration, ensuring reliable power delivery, data communication, and control logic across the car.

Tools & Platforms:

Altium, Soldering, RapidHarness

High Voltage Electronics

The High Voltage Electronics subteam is responsible for delivering power from the battery to the motor through the car’s tractive system. This includes the design of custom traction inverters, a custom Battery Management System (BMS), and the integration of high-voltage power throughout the vehicle. The team develops custom PCBs and embedded firmware to ensure safe, reliable power delivery to the wheels.

Tools & Platforms:

Altium Designer, Embedded Firmware Tools
